You may qualify for a study if you can answer Yes to these questions.

• Type 2 diabetes using an FDA approved medication aliskiren. This study is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group study to determine whether, patients with type 2 diabetes at high risk for cardiovascular and renal events, aliskiren, on top of conventional treatment, reduces cardiovascular and renal morbidity and mortality. In order to qualify patients must be 35 years of age or older and have Type 2 diabetes. Patients will receive, at no cost to them or their insurance, the study medication, all study-related physician visits, and all protocol-related labs. During this 48 week study there will be 22 office visits to closely monitor the response to this therapy.

• High blood pressure for men and women who are 18 years to 75 years of age. To qualify for this study you must have a diagnosis of high blood pressure, and currently or not currently on medication. Qualifying will be given study medication to treat high blood pressure while being closely monitored by a physician. The duration of the study is 9 weeks with 7 clinic visits. Patients will receive study medication, protocol-specific testing and clinic visits at no cost.

☐ Yes   patients with mild-to moderate uncomplicated essential hypertension, untreated or currently taking antihypertensive therapy

☐ Yes   patient is not Type 1 or 2 diabetes mellitus

☐ Yes   patient does not have a history of heart failure and no history of malignancy (except non Melanoma skin cancer) within the past 5 years
