Patient Safety
OSF Medical Group is committed to providing you and your family with safe and quality health care. We take part in many local and national initiatives designed to improve how we care for you. There are also various things you can do as a patient to partner with your caregivers.
Because your safety is one of our top concerns...
- We participate in National Patient Safety Goals.
OSF Medical Group has policies and processes established for each of the 2008 National Patient Safety Goals put out by the Joint Commission. In addition, OSF Medical Group measures these goals every six months.

- We involve patients in specimen labeling.
Accurate specimen labeling is a significant patient safety concern. OSF Medical Group has developed a standardized process to ensure correct labeling of specimens. Our employees ask each patient to verify their correct name and date of birth on the sample before it is sent to the lab.
- We strive to prevent falls within our OSF Medical Group offices.
Falls account for a large number of deaths and injury in the United Sates. OSF Medical Group assesses patients for the risk of falling to help identify those who need education on fall prevention and alert caregivers to patients who need assistance walking around.
In addition, OSF Medical Group completes an annual environmental evaluation to make sure that our offices are safe for patients. We evaluate sidewalks, parking surfaces, carpeting, bathrooms, exam tables and other various safety related items.
- We provide our patients the Safe Medicine patient newsletter, produced by Institute of Safe Medicine Practice, free of charge. Ask for a copy during your next doctor's office visit. For more information about the Institute of Safe Medicine, please visit their website.
We want to provide you with the best care possible. If you have questions about patient safety, please contact your doctor's office or ask at your next visit.
