Born and raised in Burbank, Ilinois, Dr. Steve Smart attended Washington University in St. Louis where he earned a BS in chemical engineering followed by his medical degree. 

After residency and fellowship at Washington University and the University of Iowa, he served three years of active duty in the US Air Force as an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Clinic Director at Wilford Hall Medical Center, San Antonio, TX. 

He has practiced in Peoria since 1996, active in organized medicine, church, sports, scouting and family life.  Special interests include teaching and medical ethics. 

He and his wife, Kate, are parents of eight children, four of which were adopted.
