=Images= | OSF Center for Health - Route 91 The OSF Medical Group - Clinical Research Center is located at the OSF Center for Health - Route 91 in Peoria, Illinois. They are devoted to offering medical group patients access to new forms of treatment for chronic conditions such as Type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis for men, and high blood pressure. Their main goal is to be involved in studies that focus on finding the best treatments currently available for our patients.

The Clinical Research Center continues to actively partner with quality pharmaceutical companies and they provide patients with access to medications and national and international studies that can not be obtained elsewhere. This endeavor is directly related to the OSF Mission, "to serve persons with the greatest care and love."

You may qualify for a study if you can answer yes to the questions below each.

Type 2 Diabetes Using an FDA-Approved Medication Aliskiren

This study is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group study to determine whether, patients with type 2 diabetes at high risk for cardiovascular and renal events, aliskiren, on top of conventional treatment, reduces cardiovascular and renal morbidity and mortality. In order to qualify patients must be 35 years of age or older and have Type 2 diabetes. Patients will receive, at no cost to them or their insurance, the study medication, all study-related physician visits, and all protocol-related labs. During this 48 week study there will be 22 office visits to closely monitor the response to this therapy.

  1. Patient is NOT pregnant or nursing.

  2. Patient is 35 years of age or older.

  3. Patient has NO history of any cardiovascular event (stroke, transient ischemic cerebral attack, MI, unstable angina, CABG, percutaneaous coronary intervention) 3 months prior to visit.

  4. Patient has NOT had any malignancy in the last 5 years, other than basal cell or squamous cell skin cancer.

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Using FDA-Approved Exenatide (Byetta) & Investigational Injectable Medication

This study is for Type 2 Diabetes. The patient must be on Metformin >1500 mg/day and/or Pioglitazone > 30 mg/day for at least 12 weeks. This is a one year study and consists of 12 office visits.

  1. Patient is 18 years or older

  2. Patient has Type 2 diabetes

  3. Patient has HbA1c of > 7.0% up to 11% at time of screening

  4. BMI of greater than 23 but less than 45 kg/m2

Type 2 Diabetes Using New Investigational Medication to Assess Cardiovascular Outcomes in Adults with Type 2 Diabetes

Patient must:

  1. Be at least 30 years old

  2. Have an HbA1c of 7/0% to 10.5%

  3. Have a history of a cardiovascular event (for example, heart attack. angina, angioplasty, stent placement, bypass surgery.)

  4. Either not on anti-diabetic medicaition or treated with no more than 2 oral pills OR insulin alone.
